Project Description
Cimon della Pala – Dolomites, Italy
Rising through a mysterious veil of fog, the elusive summit of Cimon della Pala whispers of a dramatic cloud hidden landscape below. The iconic peak, sometimes called the Matterhorn of the Italian Dolomites, lies within Parco Naturale Pale Di San Martino, one of the first nature parks in Italy. At 3184 meters (10446 feet), it is not the highest peak in the park, but perhaps the most captivating. Its porphyritic rock, a form of igneous stone with crystals of varied size, is a common trait of the peaks within the 197 square kilometer (76 square mile) park. The dense and rough texture of the pink stone makes the peak alluring for climbers and photographers alike.
