Project Description
Lupine At Midnight – Southern Region, Iceland
Bathed in the glow of sunset at midnight, a field of lupine marks the edge of Iceland’s austere highlands. Iceland combines the dramatic topography of volcanoes and ice with the pastoral colors of subalpine tundra. This striking combination draws the eye endlessly into the enchanted landscape. Sparsely populated, Iceland’s 40,000 square miles is home to fewer than 350,000 people, the majority of which live near the capital of Reykjavik. Volcanic activity and powerful rivers provide Iceland with abundant sources of renewable energy. In recent years, tourism has become a significant part of the economy. Iceland’s beautiful and haunting landscape attracts more than 1.1 million visitors annually, more than three times its permanent population.
