Meditating on the lifting mist within Boulder Canyon reveals the canyon’s vertical strata of forest and stone. A rugged, three dimensional landscape, the canyon harbors a diverse forest of Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine, lodgepole pine, cottonwood, and aspen. Comprised of national forest lands, city mountain parks, as well as private property, the canyon is a haven for biking, hiking, fishing, and rock climbing. It is also a conduit between the bustling college town of Boulder and the high peaks of the continental divide to the west. On misty days of rain and fog, the steep walled canyon becomes cloaked in mystery, revealing itself only in layers.
