Chimney Rock Sunset – San Juan Mountains, Colorado
Bathed in the tangerine glow of sunset, Chimney Rock pierces a swirling sky above the northern San Juan Mountains. Among the most dramatic mountains in Colorado, the San Juans encompass thirteen of Colorado’s 54 fourteeners, as well as eight national wilderness areas. Once an epicenter for gold and silver mining, the range is now a magnet for outdoor tourism. While Chimney Rock, at 11,781 feet, is nearly 400 feet lower than the main summit of Courthouse Mountain, its forbidding shape captures the imagination and the interest of photographers.
