Project Description
Tidal Sands – Olympic Coast, Washington
Like a finger print from the ebbing sea, tidal sands are the unique patterns left behind by receding water. The intricate designs, made possible by the fine sand and gentle slope of a few Olympic coast beaches, can be as captivating as the treasures swimming in nearby tide pools. Sections of the Olympic coast are sheltered within the 73 mile long coastal strip of Olympic National Park, one of the few remaining stretches of wilderness coast on the western seaboard. Offshore, the Olympic Coast Marine Sanctuary is jeweled with sea stacks, a haven for seabirds, including puffins, gulls and bald eagles. The 3,310 square mile sanctuary is also home to 29 species of marine mammals and a thriving community of invertebrates. The park’s coastal strip and adjacent marine sanctuary provide a safe haven for local fauna and a serene refuge for visitors.
