Project Description

Wings Over Dhaulagiri – Nepal

Sculpted by high tropospheric winds into the shape of wings, lenticular clouds hover over the soaring summit of Dhaulagiri. Reaching 26,790 feet into the sky, Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in the world. The Nepali name derives from sanskrit and means dazzling, white mountain. Wedged between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna I, the Kali Gandaki River Gorge, at over 18,000 feet from rim to river, is the deepest in the world. It is three times the depth of the Grand Canyon. Because of its status as one of the world’s fourteen 8000 meter peaks, Dhaulagiri and the surrounding region attract a steady stream of climbers and trekkers. The spectacular Himalayan landscape and gracious culture have made tourism one of Nepal’s principle economic industries.
