Flowers and Ribbons – Crested Butte, Colorado
A liquid ribbon ruffled by the landscape, the East River winds past meadows of rioting wildflowers. Dominated here by flamboyant sunflowers, this Colorado river valley and surrounding mountains flourish with more than 1000 cataloged species of flowers. Each year the brilliant display draws throngs of people to the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival. Much of the valley lies within the Gunnison National Forest and is bordered by the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness.
