Project Description

Individuality – Uncompahgre National Forest, Colorado

A galaxy of color, the autumn melody of an individual aspen stands in contrast to the symphony of a forested hillside.  Aspens propagate predominately by sending up shoots from the roots of parent trees, resulting in entire groves with the same genetic material.  These clonal colonies respond to the seasons in concert and change colors as a group.  This indiviudal tree, within Colorado’s million acre Uncompahgre National Forest, flourishes alone in a meadow and expresses its unique colors.
