Project Description
Morning Mist – Olympic National Park, Washington
Enveloped in a cloud of mist, a hiker enjoys the bright morning sunshine above the dark chasm of Sol Duc Falls. Churning through the narrow gorge, the Sol Duc River flows through a temperate rainforest, enchanted by moss covered trees and giant ferns. One of several rainforests in Washington’s Olympic National Park, the area receives about 12 feet of precipitation annually. Undaunted by the perpetual rain and mist, nearly 3 million visitors a year enjoy the park’s rugged and diverse scenery. The park encompasses more than 1400 square miles, ranging from the sparkling Pacific seashore to the glaciated pinnacle of Mount Olympus.
