Project Description

Comet Falls – Mount Rainier National Park, Washington

With the grace of a celestial body, Comet Falls drapes a narrow veil down the precipitous lower cliffs of Mount Rainier. Here Van Trump Creek falls 320 misty feet in a single leap, followed quickly by two smaller drops through subalpine flora. The creek is one of 470 streams that emanate from melting glaciers high on the mountain. Some 35 square miles of snow and ice crown the lofty slopes of Mount Rainier. Established in 1899 as the nation’s fifth national park, Mount Rainier provides a renewable and renewing resource for two million visitors a year.
